We arrived at the Haliburton Adventure Base on Friday Nov 30 2001, at approximately
8 o’clock. We unloaded out things into the cabin and started to throw
ice at each other, until Brian (Advisor) asked us to get kindling because
he cut his finger trying to make some. We gave up on that but after
a little while Rob and I went back to the wood shed and got some kindling.
When we got back we found that the fire was already started L.
After a while of more ice throwing we went inside and decided to play
cards. It was about midnight when the first of us Keith decided to
go to sleep. The rest of us stayed up until about 2:30 am, playing
cards, eating hotdogs and nachos, and drinking juice from sugar crystals.
We also found a mouse, which we are still trying to find. When it
was 2:30 am Ryan and myself went to bed. Before we did Rob said he
was going to stay up to three o’clock playing solitaire.
After I woke us the next morning I found out that it was 11 o’clock
already, yikes! So we decided to have breakfast (I had Count Chocula Cereal
with Chocolate milk!). Then we went out to Al’s Diner. It was
Rob’s first time, so he was surprised to find that you get free food the
first time you go to Al’s. Yum, I can’t wait until I get to eat those
great waffles again at Al’s Diner.
After we had finished playing cards we were all feeling a little tired
so we decided to get a little rest. Well most of us except Rob and
Ryan. Ryan decided to eat a wholesome dinner, which consisted of
Count Chocula, and chocolate milk. Rob decided on a better dinner
and made pasta and fish sticks during the time that I was playing solitaire
(Keith also had Count Chocula for dinner.) Later on in the evening
we went on a night hike at around midnight, until then I think we just
played cards.
P.S. Rob made a Kick Ass meal!!!!

Rob’s Perspective
My name is Rob C. and this is my first time I have been to Haliburton Adventure
Base campsite. We arrived at 8:00 pm Friday, and quickly unpacked.
There was snow everywhere and everything was very icy. When we got
there the cabin was freezing, we had to collect all sorts of firewood to
get the fire going. By 10:00 pm we were all settled in and ready
for bed. But we still weren’t ready for bed, the idea of playing
cards was brought up by Rodrick D. So we got down to business and played
every type of card game we knew. There was euchre, hearts, cribbage,
crazy 8’S, asshole, brisk, solitaire, go fish, speed and Black Jack.
At 12:00 am we though it was all over, but then Keith went to bed and the
party began. We quickly cooked up a plate of nachos and I started
cooking hotdogs for everyone. The night ended with a game of cribbage
when Tim and Rodrick suddenly lost and then everyone hit the sac at about
3:00am. The next day began at 11:30 am and we all decided it
was time to visit Al’s Diner. So we started the hike towards Al’s
diner. I had heard a lot about the food there and I was not let down
by Al’s persistent quality of his cooking. Then again we got down
to business and sat down for another great session of cards. It was closing
in on 6:30 and someone came up with the idea of a night hike, so we set
out. Our mission was to visit the chapel and the archery range.
On the way there Rodrick got attacked and got covered with some radioactive
liquid and was glowing the rest of the night. By this time I think
the radioactivity got to Rodrick’s head, he started into a crazy death
dance on the rocky shores of the lake.
This dance ended with the three of us (Rob, Ryan and Keith) dragging
his convulsive body back to our cabin. After he regained consciousness
we got back to the evening ritual of playing cards. Again and again
I was President and I felt I was unbeatable, because I was unbeatable.
After I got tired of winning I decided to cook a gourmet meal consisting
of fresh fish and an awesome plate of pasta. Some chose not to eat it so
we had huge servings (boy did they miss out). After eating, cards
started back up to the usually game “asshole”. Again I was President,
go figure. It was a late night again at 3:00 am we were still going strong.
At this time I cooked some more nachos, since the plate was empty.
I looked up and there was only Roderick and me left, everyone else had
gone into hibernation. Some how the game speed came into the conversation.
At this time I was challenged to a “Quick” game of it. All and all it ended
up with Roderick yelling and screaming and waking up everyone in the whole
cabin. Finally I got sick of the game and went to bed about 4:00
am. Woke up at about 10:15 am and started to pack up. We left
by 11:30 am and so ends the greatest tale every told. The most exciting
adventure of a scout camp I am sure anyone would every experience.
I am writing this on the way home, when all of the events are still fresh
in my head and do not have time to exaggerate or stretch the truth in anyway.

Ryan’s Perspective
Hi, I’m Ryan and I’m a Venturer. This is the story of my weekend excursion.
It all started on Friday, November 30th when I pulled into the parking
lot of Scouter Brian’s apartment at 1pm. Brian was not on the threshold
until about 1:40pm (delayed my work). That was okay though because I was
psyched about going on the trip. Rob, another Venture was also there and
we took our packs down to the garage to load them into Scouter Brian’s
pickup truck. We then proceeded to the 11th floor and entered his apartment.
There, Rob and I sat and waited while Tim, the assistant advisor and Advisor
Brian, packed. Once we were all ready we went to the truck and made our
way to a house where we dropped of Brian downtown. Then Tim drove us to
Keith’s house to pick him up. He strolled out to the truck with a grin
on his face and instantaneously he and Tim had whipped up an argument.
Next it was off to Rob’s house because we had to pick up an axe but we
also got candy because Rob did a swift raid of his cupboards. After that
we searched for Roderick’s house. We arrived there and called on him. Keith
forgot his dishes, so he borrowed some from mother. Then we went and picked
up Brian. Finally, we were off!
We drove for a long time and made a quick stop at Wendy’s and continued
on to Camp Samac Adventure Base. We found that we could unlock the gate,
so we just drove down. Thank the good Lord!! We then proceeded with unloading
the truck. The cabin was cold and there was ice everywhere outside. We
were assigned to go look for firewood but we obviously did a horrid job
because we came back with none and there was a blazing fire on the hearth
when we stepped through the door. We all set up our sleeping bags. Then,
when we could not think of anything to do someone suggested cards. We played
all night, eating when we could. It was awesome because I was the best
at all the games we played. Actually, for every game that we played I needed
help playing (except for euchre) and I generally didn’t do too well in
any of them. It was getting late at 12am (yeah right) and Keith went to
bed. The rest of us stayed up until 3am. Then the cabin became quiet. The
next day we got up and I had Count Chocula and Cinnamon Toast Crunch mixed
with some chocolate milk for breakfast. At noon we decided to go to Al’s
Diner for some eats. Let me just say I got way more taste for my money
than any other place. We hiked back to camp and sat down to play some more
cards. At about 6:30 we decided to go on a night hike to the Chapel and
Archery Range…
